University of Johannesburg 2027 Admissions Now Open: How to Apply

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has officially opened admissions for the 2027 academic year. Applications are free, and both South African and international students can now apply online.

Below is everything you need to know before you apply.

Key Application Dates

• Opens: 1 April 2026
• Closes: 31 October 2026 at 12:00 (noon)
• Some postgraduate programmes (Education, Engineering, Humanities, Psychology, Business & Economics) have earlier or later deadlines — check your specific faculty page on the UJ website before applying.

Application Fee

There is no application fee for UJ admissions.

Documents You’ll Need

• Final school-leaving results (or latest Grade 11 results if still in Grade 12)
• Valid passport, ID, or birth certificate
• Sworn English translation for documents not issued in English
• Proof of English proficiency for non-English-taught applicants (IELTS 6 for undergrad / 7 for postgrad, or TOEFL equivalent)
• Academic transcript, if you’ve studied at another university

Supporting documents can be uploaded on the application portal or emailed to intappsdocs@listsrv.uj.ac.za (use your student or application reference number as the email subject).

International Applicants

International students with high school qualifications from outside South Africa need a Matriculation Exemption Certificate from the Matriculation Board (Form M30) before they can be considered for undergraduate degree study. Diplomas and certificates don’t require this exemption.

International levies for 2027 will be confirmed closer to registration, but for reference, 2026 rates were:

• SADC/African countries: R2,090
• Other countries: R17,780

Fees Payment Structure

For self-funded students:

• 40% of tuition and residence fees due at registration
• 70% paid by 30 April
• 100% paid by 31 July
