How the Selection Process Works
Unlike open-enrolment institutions, UNISA does not guarantee automatic acceptance. Admission is based on:
- Your Admission Points Score (APS), calculated mainly from your final Grade 12 marks
- Space availability for your chosen qualification
- UNISA’s own selection criteria, which factor in broader access and equity considerations
The minimum APS required differs by college and qualification, so check the requirements for your specific course before applying.
Application Rules You Should Know
- You may apply for up to three qualifications, ranked in order of preference.
- You can only register for one qualification, even if you’re accepted into more than one.
- If offered a space, you must accept or decline within the given deadline — missing it means losing the offer.
- Accepting one offer automatically cancels any other offers you received.
- First-time applicants must complete the First-Year Experience MOOC before they can accept an offer.
- If you accept but don’t register for that semester, you’ll need to reapply in the next application cycle.

You must submit a new application if you are:
- A first-time UNISA applicant
- An existing student switching to a new qualification or specialisation
- A higher certificate graduate wanting to continue further undergraduate studies
- Re-applying after previously missing your registration deadline
